Archaeoastronomy: The study of stones and stars

Avebury Henge and Stone Circles

Avebury henge and stone circles in Wiltshire, England, were built between 2850 BC and 2200 BC. The henge is a huge circular ditch about 1100 feet in diameter that surrounds a series of stone circles. There is still debate among scholars about how much astronomical significance this site may have held.
