I leave next week for DocTrain East in Burlington, Massachusetts. I’ll be speaking with my sister-in-law, Alison Huettner, about Controlled Languages and choosing subsets of English for use in technical communication. It’s a new topic for me, though Alison’s got tons of experience in it. Not only does she have a PhD in Linguistics, but she helped to create some forms of Controlled English back when she was still in grad school.
Outside of the conference this will be a great trip, partly because Fall in New England is always lovely, and partly because I hope to see some of my old buddies from my days as a Greater-Bostonian. I may even see a couple of high school chums (unless they back out, again!)
